GridCoin (GRC)

Gridcoin is a blockchain based cryptocurrency and supercomputer network. Gridcoin deploys the Proof-of-Research (POR) algorithm, which incentivizes users with Gridcoin for donating their computing power to help scientific projects on Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC), a distributed computing network. Computing on these scientific projects substitutes the cryptographic calculations associated with Bitcoin mining. Furthermore, while Bitcoin secures its network via an energy intensive proof-of-work algorithm, Gridcoin utilizes a more energy efficient proof-of-stake algorithm.
