By unanimous decision, Electroneum is now the tenth member of the Blockchain for Europe "power group" that focuses on blockchain promotion and education to help the EU remain at the global forefront of blockchain innovation.
The award-winning crypto project now shares a privileged place in the select blockchain lobbying group – one of the most respected in Europe – along with Cardano, Binance, Fetch.ai, Ripple, and Billon, who voted in favor of onboarding Electroneum.
"It's a great honor to form part of such an important group of blockchain firms in their quest to ensure that new rules and regulations do not stifle innovation in the space," said Electroneum CEO Richard Ells. "We look forward to playing our part in helping the European authorities and lawmakers to understand this fascinating industry better."
Based on the selection criteria of Blockchain for Europe, Electroneum has been accepted because it is European-based. But, more importantly, because it has proven to be a well-established company with highly professional team members and a goal for financial inclusion that has caught the attention of many crypto and blockchain experts around the world.
A trade association like Blockchain for Europe ensures that blockchain companies can speak with a unified voice to effectively and globally influence policymaking at the EU level.
"We proactively contribute to the regulatory debate by supporting European decision-makers in their goal to make Blockchain technology a success," the association states on their website.
"Without enough understanding of the technology, there is a risk for poor regulation and general confusion. Aware of this risk, regulators around Europe are trying to understand better the blockchain ecosystem, and Blockchain for Europe is helping them with this process," it adds.
According to their latest announcement, the association is now focused on responding to the European Union's action plan on Anti-Money Laundering public consultation and the Digital Services Act consultation on smart contracts.
The group is also contributing to ongoing discussions on the proposed EU framework for markets in crypto-assets consultation conducted in December 2019. And as the association grows, it intends to expand to areas such as self-sovereign identity, digital taxation, IoT, and governance.
